Gabriel Arias
Gabriel Arias Returns to Cleveland lineup
Fri, Sep 12, 2025, 2:36 PM
Arias (wrist) will start at shortstop and bat sixth in Friday's game versus the White Sox.
Analysis: Arias was forced to miss the last three contests with right wrist inflammation, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go in Friday's series opener. With Arias at shortstop, Brayan Rocchio will shift back to second base for the Guardians.
Juan Brito
Juan Brito Undergoes hamstring surgery
Fri, Sep 12, 2025, 1:52 PM
Brito will be sidelined for 8-to-12 weeks after undergoing surgery to repair his left hamstring, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Brito came into spring training with a chance to win the Guardians' second-base job, but he spent all season in the minors and was limited to only 24 games at Triple-A Columbus due to thumb and now hamstring surgeries. The 23-year-old should be ready to report to spring training without any restrictions.
CJ Kayfus
CJ Kayfus Blasts go-ahead homer late
Fri, Sep 12, 2025, 5:32 AM
Kayfus went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 3-2 win over Kansas City.
Analysis: Kayfus flipped the script in the bottom of the eighth inning when he launched a two-run, go-ahead homer 425 feet to center field. Up to the point, the Guardians offense put up little fight (three hits, one run) against Royals pitching. The home run was the first in 17 contests and third of the season for Kayfus, who's been on a bumpy road since late August. He entered the night batting .128 (5-for-39) with a .453 OPS over his previous 14 games.
Gavin Williams
Gavin Williams Six Ks in six strong innings
Fri, Sep 12, 2025, 2:35 AM
Williams didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Royals, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks in six innings. He struck out six.
Analysis: The right-hander delivered his third consecutive quality start, and he's now tossed at least six frames while yielding two runs or fewer in seven of his 10 appearances since the All-Star break. However, homers and walks do remain an issue for Williams, who got taken deep in his fourth straight start, and he issued at least three free passes for the third time during that span. Williams will take a 3.16 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 152:79 K:BB across 156.2 innings into his next start, which is set to be a tough matchup against the AL Central-leading Tigers.
Cade Smith
Cade Smith Nails down 13th save
Thu, Sep 11, 2025, 10:39 PM
Smith struck out two in a clean ninth inning for the save Thursday against the Royals.
Analysis: Although Smith opened the month by imploding for three earned runs in his first September outing, he's turned in four saves across five consecutive scoreless appearances since then. With Emmanuel Clase's future with the Guardians uncertain, Smith is cementing himself as Cleveland's closer to close out the regular season. He has a 3.15 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 92:13 K:BB while converting 13 of his 18 save chances over 65.2 frames.
Gabriel Arias
Gabriel Arias Not starting Thursday
Thu, Sep 11, 2025, 5:12 PM
Arias (wrist) isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game versus Kansas City.
Analysis: Arias is expected to play through his wrist injury to help the Guardians push for a spot in the postseason, but not before he misses a third consecutive start Thursday. Brayan Rocchio will fill in at shortstop in Arias' absence, putting Daniel Schneemann at second base and opening a spot in the lineup for George Valera to serve as Cleveland's designated hitter.
Kyle Manzardo
Kyle Manzardo Goes yard in loss
Thu, Sep 11, 2025, 7:24 AM
Manzardo went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to Kansas City.
Analysis: Manzardo responded to the Royals jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with a two-run blast in the bottom of the frame. It was the fifth home run in the last 11 games for Manzardo, who is 12-for-37 (.324) with six extra-base hits, 10 RBI and seven runs scored during that stretch. He's second on the team with 28 homers and is having a strong second half, slashing .282/.381/.542 with 11 home runs and 30 RBI over 43 games since the All-Star break.
Brayan Rocchio
Brayan Rocchio Fills in at shortstop
Thu, Sep 11, 2025, 7:12 AM
Rocchio started at shortstop and went 2-for-3 with a walk in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Royals.
Analysis: Rocchio made a second consecutive start at shortstop with Gabriel Arias nursing a wrist injury. Arias will play through the injury while the Guardians compete for a playoff spot, but it's unclear what level of activity he can tolerate. Rocchio, who has been the primary second baseman, may see more action at shortstop going forward. His season numbers are negatively skewed by an unproductive first two months (.530 OPS), which prompted a demotion to the minors. Since returning to the majors July 1, Rocchio's been much better, slashing .276/.330/.412 over 63 games.
Gabriel Arias
Gabriel Arias Will play through injury
Thu, Sep 11, 2025, 7:00 AM
Arias (wrist) will play through his injury while the Guardians continue a push for a postseason spot, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Arias consulted with the team's medical staff and hand specialist Dr. Thomas Graham, and it was determined he could play through the issue. Arias initially injured the wrist in a win over the Mariners on Aug. 29 and aggravated the issue Monday. He's sat the two games since with Brayan Rocchio filling in at shortstop.
Logan Allen
Logan Allen Limits Royals in no-decision
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 9:27 PM
Allen didn't factor into the decision against the Royals on Wednesday, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out two over five innings.
Analysis: While Allen had hiccups in the first and third innings, he was near perfect otherwise, facing the minimum number of batters over his remaining three frames and logging at least five innings for the 16th time in his last 17 starts. The right-hander came into the outing with a 5.87 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 19 walks across his previous six starts (30.2 innings), and while Wednesday's line was cleaner, he continued to struggle with limiting baserunners. Allen remains tough to trust in most formats, offering little more than streaming value when facing weaker lineups.
Nolan Jones
Nolan Jones Taking seat Wednesday
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 1:59 PM
Jones is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Royals.
Analysis: Jones had been in the lineup for each of the previous six contests but went only 4-for-20 with seven strikeouts over that stretch. C.J. Kayfus will start in right field for the Guardians on Wednesday.
Gabriel Arias
Gabriel Arias Sitting again Wednesday
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 1:53 PM
Arias (wrist) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals.
Analysis: Arias will miss a second straight start after departing Monday's 10-2 win due to right wrist inflammation. He is considered day-to-day. Brayan Rocchio will again shift over to shortstop, and Daniel Schneemann will handle second base for the Guardians.
Cade Smith
Cade Smith Picks up 12th save
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 8:42 AM
Smith secured his 12th save of the season with a scoreless inning Tuesday, allowing one hit while striking out two in a 2-0 win over the Royals.
Analysis: Smith was summoned after Joey Cantillo began the inning by allowing a leadoff base hit. A Bobby Witt single put runners on the corners with one out before Smith fired back with consecutive strikeouts to end the game. He's converted his last five saves and now has multiple strikeouts in each of his last three appearances. Smith's had another productive campaign, posting a 3.20 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 90:19 K:BB in 64.2 innings.
Joey Cantillo
Joey Cantillo Pitches into ninth inning
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 8:36 AM
Cantillo (5-3) got the win over the Royals on Tuesday after tossing eight scoreless frames while allowing just four hits and no walks. He struck out five.
Analysis: Cantillo was phenomenal in what was just his third start of at least six innings pitched in his young career, and the second such start in his last two outings. Cantillo came back out for the ninth but was pulled after 92 pitches following a leadoff single by Kyle Isbel. Cantillo's velocity was notably up across the board, and he didn't issue a walk for the first time in his last seven appearances. Over his last four major-league starts, Cantillo owns a 1.09 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. He lines up for a road start against the Tigers next week.
Gabriel Arias
Gabriel Arias Held out Tuesday
Tue, Sep 9, 2025, 2:25 PM
Arias (wrist) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Royals.
Analysis: Arias had to depart Monday's contest with right wrist inflammation. While he managed to avoid a serious injury, he will be forced to miss at least one start. Brayan Rocchio will slide over to shortstop and Daniel Schneemann will handle second base for the Guardians on Tuesday.
Gabriel Arias
Gabriel Arias Avoids serious injury
Mon, Sep 8, 2025, 8:41 PM
Arias was removed from Monday's game against the Royals due to right wrist inflammation, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Stebbins notes that Arias was lifted from the matchup as a precaution, so it's fair to consider him day-to-day until more information on the injury comes to light. Angel Martinez could be in line for opportunities at shortstop if Arias is forced to sit for a few days.
Daniel Schneemann
Daniel Schneemann Three-hit performance in win
Mon, Sep 8, 2025, 8:28 PM
Schneemann went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored in Monday's 10-2 victory over Kansas City.
Analysis: The 28-year-old posted his fourth three-hit game of the season in this contest and notched his 18th double. Schneemann entered Monday mired in a cold spell, slashing .094/.171/.219 in 35 plate appearances over his 10 previous games. He continues to play regularly in a strong-side platoon role, producing a .682 OPS with 11 homers, nine steals, 44 runs scored and 38 RBI across 115 total games.
Brayan Rocchio
Brayan Rocchio Laces three hits in win
Mon, Sep 8, 2025, 8:27 PM
Rocchio went 3-for-4 with a walk, one RBI and two runs scored in Monday's 10-2 rout of the Royals.
Analysis: The 24-year-old notched his second three-hit performance of the season, with the first coming July 8 at Houston. Rocchio, who entered the season with a .213 career batting average, has been much improved at the plate since the All-Star break, hitting .272 (43-for-158) with three homers, four steals, 28 RBI and 16 runs scored across 48 contests. Overall, the Venezuelan is now slashing .236/.294/.342 with 40 RBI and 27 runs scored in 317 total plate appearances.
Slade Cecconi
Slade Cecconi Fires eight blank frames
Mon, Sep 8, 2025, 8:25 PM
Cecconi (6-6) earned the win Monday against the Royals, allowing one hit and three walks over eight scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
Analysis: The Cleveland right-hander turned in his second scoreless outing of the season -- with the first coming June 22 against the Athletics -- as he picked up his 10th quality start. This dazzling performance was a welcome sight for Cecconi, who had struggled with a 6.19 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 35:8 K:BB across 52.1 innings in nine post-All-Star break starts. Through 115.1 total frames, the 26-year-old now sports a 4.45 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 94:29 K:BB. He currently lines up to make his next start at home against the White Sox this weekend.
Gabriel Arias
Gabriel Arias Exits early Monday
Mon, Sep 8, 2025, 7:27 PM
Arias (undisclosed) exited Monday's contest against the Royals in the sixth inning, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Arias struck out to end the fourth inning, ultimately prompting manager Stephen Vogt to come check on him. The infielder remained in the game for the fifth inning, but he did end up leaving the contest prior to the sixth. It's unclear what Arias is dealing with, and more information on his status will likely come in the near future. Angel Martinez replaced Arias in the field for the time being, batting seventh versus Kansas City.
